edVerse Deploys Voice AI Tutors in 1,200 Rural Schools Across Rajasthan and Bihar

edVerse's offline-capable Hindi voice AI tutors have reached 180,000 rural students across Rajasthan and Bihar, showing 1.8 grade-level gains in maths in an independent evaluation.

Edtech startup edVerse — widely seen as the most ambitious post-BYJU's bet in Indian education — has deployed its AI-powered voice tutors in 1,200 government schools across Rajasthan and Bihar, reaching an estimated 180,000 students in classes 6 through 10. The company has partnered with state governments and the Azim Premji Foundation to fund device distribution and teacher training.

The Product

The edVerse tutor runs on a ruggedised Android tablet that works fully offline, syncing lesson data and student progress when a Wi-Fi connection is available — which in many target schools is only a few hours per week. The AI tutor communicates in Hindi and local dialects, using a conversational format where students can ask questions in their own words and receive adaptive explanations.

The system tracks learning outcomes at the student level and flags children who are falling behind for teacher attention. It generates weekly progress reports in simple language, designed for teachers who may not be data-literate.

Early Results

An independent mid-line evaluation conducted by ASER Centre found that students using the edVerse tutor for eight weeks showed a 1.8 grade-level improvement in mathematics comprehension compared to a control group. Reading comprehension improved by 1.2 grade levels. The gains were largest among first-generation learners — students whose parents have not completed secondary education.

edVerse is targeting 10 million learners by the end of 2026 and is in advanced talks with the central government to integrate its platform into the PM SHRI schools initiative.
